چکیده

An analysis of the finite element heterogeneous multiscale method for a class of quasilinear elliptic homogenization problems of nonmonotone type is proposed. We obtain optimal convergence results for dimension d ≤ 3. Our results, which also take into account the microscale discretization, are valid for both simplicial and quadrilateral finite elements. Optimal a-priori error estimates are obtained for the H1 and L2 norms, error bounds similar as for linear elliptic problems are derived for the resonance error. Uniqueness of a numerical solution is proved. Moreover, the Newton method used to compute the solution is shown to converge. Numerical experiments confirm the theoretical convergence rates and illustrate the behavior of the numerical method.

Reduced basis finite element heterogeneous multiscale method for quasilinear elliptic homogenization problems

A reduced basis finite element heterogeneous multiscale method (RB-FE-HMM) for a class of nonlinear homogenization elliptic problems of nonmonotone type is introduced. In this approach, the solutions of the micro problems needed to estimate the macroscopic data of the homogenized problem are selected by a Greedy algorithm and computed in an offline stage. It is shown that the use of reduced bas...

In this talk we will present recent developments in the design and analysis of numerical homogenization methods. Numerical methods for linear and nonlinear partial differential equations that combine multiscale methods with reduced order modeling techniques such as the reduced basis method will be discussed. The talk is based upon a series of joint works with various collaborators[1,2,3,4,5]. [...

Heterogeneous Multiscale FEM for Diffusion Problems on Rough Surfaces

We present a finite element method for the numerical solution of diffusion problems on rough surfaces. The problem is transformed to an elliptic homogenization problem in a two dimensional parameter domain with a rapidly oscillating diffusion tensor and source term. The finite element method is based on the heterogeneous multiscale methods of E and Engquist [Commun. Math. Sci., 1 (2003), pp. 87...

The heterogeneous multiscale finite element method for elliptic homogenization problems in perforated domains

In this contribution we analyze a generalization of the heterogeneous multiscale finite element method for elliptic homogenization problems in perforated domains. The method was originally introduced by E and Engquist (Commun Math Sci 1(1):87–132, 2003) for homogenization problems in fixed domains. It is based on a standard finite element approach on the macroscale, where the stiffness matrix i...
